This March, we need pickup truck owner/drivers to each deliver soil and nursery pots to 4 new micro-nursery hosts (which take about an hour each), although you are welcome to take on more. Your deliveries will take place during the week of March 6 to March 12. You get a list of contact info for four new micro-nursery hosts grouped together in the Seattle area. You contact each and arrange when and where to drop off about 500 lbs of topsoil and 100 nursery pots at each address. To make deliveries you go to one of the local Pacific Topsoil facilities where a front-end loader will load your truck with 1/2 cubic yard (about 1,000 lbs) of topsoil. You will then drive to the Phinney Neighborhood Center in N. Seattle, say hello to other volunteers there, and pick up a bag of nursery pots for each of your host deliveries. You may need to do this twice, or if your pickup can handle a full cubic yard, you can make 4 deliveries from one load. Finally, you drive to the address of the hosts and unload the soil and pots. The hosts may help to unload, but it is relatively easy to shovel the soil off as it is loose, and you shovel it down off the tailgate with gravity on your side! The host will later receive a second delivery by others of 100 bare root seedlings, which they will plant in the pots and grow for 2 years for later delivery to habitat restoration organizations.

NOTE: In the fall, we will also need pickup truck drivers to return to the micro-nurseries and collect the seedlings, then deliver them to one of several habitat restoration organizations in the greater Seattle area. You may volunteer again then if you like.

"street1":"Seattle and vicinity","street2":null,"street3":null

Have you ever wanted to do something AMAZING to change the world but didn't know where to start?

Here is an opportunity to help underprivileged children, to help under-served children, to help ALL children displaced from school due to COVID-19, and even to help many adults who can't read.

Looking for grants of $10,000-$5million for implementation of a nationwide rollout of an early literacy solution. We're placing 21,000 Kindle Fire tablets in the hands of families, schools, NGO's and other partners at a cost of $2million in 2022. Department of Education and AmeriCorps are two key prospects, Dollar General Foundation, Comcast, Barbara Bush Foundation and others.

We are looking for Grant Writers to join our Funding team and help us with -

          • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.

          • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.

          • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.

          • Submit proposals to grant coordinators for approval.

          • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.

          • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.

          • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.

          • Experience in large grant applications and proposals. Building a grant writing calendar, prospecting and completing applications. Researching available funds in the governmental, corporate and philanthropic sectors

Right now, millions of children have no hope; but soon, they will have the opportunity to learn how to read, which, in turn, will open a window to education and to a world of potential for them that, not only, has never been opened before, but that has never even been seriously contemplated as a potential reality.

What we are talking about is an adaptive learning, gamified smartphone app, called FUNetix, that can literally, teach a child how to read, in the comfort of their home, in an average of just 12 hours of total use time!

We are the American Youth Literacy Foundation, an all volunteer organization comprised of a rotating talent pool of hundreds of incredibly talented professionals and interns alike; and we have been teaching children how to read for more than 13 years! We started as a tutoring organization in 2008, and throughout 2020 we created an app, based on our patented reading curriculum, that takes kids from the ABC's to a 2nd grade reading level through an amazing journey that's fully narrated and tastefully animated, and gamified just enough to create an immersive, interactive environment that captures kids' attention and imagination and launches them to literacy in a fun and easy way.

The app is now available in the App Store and on Google Play and in the Amazon Kindle App Store for 100% free download and use. There are no gimmicks, no user id or login to complete. The app is designed for every family to download and use absolutely free with not strings attached.

That's because our mission at the American Youth Literacy Foundation is to ensure that EVERY child in America learns how to read before they finish 3rd grade! We have been working on this mission for 13 years and I, personally, have been working on it since 2003, when my own son, then 8 years old, couldn't read a sentence, despite having been in good schools and despite having received numerous hours of professional support from school reading specialists. It's a long story that you can find on our website at www.FUNetix.org.

Just to be clear, our organization is an all volunteer, mission-centric, extended virtual network, comprised of highly skilled and experienced individuals from around the country (and a few from around the world) who collaborate through cloud-based technology and platforms. Individuals interested in this position must have the confidence and ability to work in a virtual environment using select networking and communications tools and platforms.

Thank you! We hope this opportunity finds you at the right place and the right time in your career to make a difference and an impact, in an amazing way, for millions of children who are waiting for someone, or some thing, to lead them out of a life of impoverishment and into a future of unlimited possibility and potential.

We look forward to hearing from you and speaking with you about the future of literacy in America.

            Mr. R. Kali Woodward

            Founding, Executive Director
